Does being a DIL mean you're the middleman slash messenger?

I received a call from MIL last night.

The conversation went:

MIL : Hello? Daughter-in-law? Is (name of husband) around?
DIL : He's playing basketball
MIL : Nag-text ako sa kanya re: Subic sa 25 to 27, nakuha ba niya?
DIL : (silence)
MIL : Wala ba siyang na-mention sa inyo?
DIL : Sinabi lang niya, ang sagot ko is OK
MIL : Okay, kasi hindi siya nag reply sa akin eh. Paki sabi i-text ako.

Okay - so, why does she have to call to ask me?
Call your son directly to ask!!

Minsan tuloy feeling ko - ako ang middleman slash messenger nitong dalawang taong ito.

I hate this... Really.
